- The gentlest means possible. No sandblasting, no pressure washing, nothing abrasive that scars the brick.
- The least intervention. Do what the wall needs, and no more.
- Reversible wherever possible. Work that can be undone later without harming the original. It can matter for grant eligibility.
- Repair before replace. Fix first. Replace only what's too far gone, and match it in kind.
- Document, document, document. Photograph and record what was done, for whoever cares for this place next.
